For some time, oil equipment manufacturers who are members of OFTEC have operated a voucher scheme to assist Registered Technicians with the costs of registration. But now the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC) which operates a competent persons' scheme in competition to OFTEC, has confirmed that it will also now honour manufacturer's OFTEC Vouchers. Concern at the apparent reduction in resources being allocated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to the enforcement of health and safety legislation has been expressed by Bob Towse, head of the HVCA's Technical and Safety Department. OFTEC is reminding oil heating, cooking and storage technicians that legally they must notify their work - either directly with building control or via OFTEC's works notification system for registered technicians. Installers who choose to use the Building Control route need to contact their local authority building control department to arrange for the job to be inspected. If the inspection passes, the local authority will issue a certificate of compliance to the householder. Read More
