FPS Rewards Youthful Ambition

11th June 2010

Twenty year old David Levenston from Warrington based Rock Oil Company has been awarded the prestigious prize of Young Employee of the Year by oil distribution industry organisation The Federation of Petroleum Suppliers (FPS) at their recent annual awards ceremony.

David joined the Sales Office for Rock Oil Company at about the same time this prestigious award was being launched and he is only the 2nd recipient to be recognised and acknowledged for the hard work and effort that the oil distribution industry's young people put in to their jobs.

Aimed at finding a rising star in the oil distribution industry, the FPS Young Employee Award is sponsored by Reynolds Trade Credit and the award is given to an FPS oil distributor member employee, aged 25 or under, for his or her exemplary efforts on behalf of the company.

David was awarded first prize because the judges felt that in his two years with Rock Oil he has achieved a tremendous amount.  He joined with no knowledge of fuels or lubricants, or of telephone techniques and customer service, and so hit a very steep learning curve. Within a very short period he had learned the differences between Gas Oil, Derv and RBO, the different VAT rates applicable, the meaning of ACEA, API and other lubricant specifications and the basic chemistry of lubrication. He also mastered the sales modules of the company computer system which controls all aspects of the business from raw material purchase through sales order processing to final invoicing.

After gaining experience in general sales order processing David assumed responsibility for one of the Company's major overseas customers and quickly established an excellent rapport with them. He is now a key member of the supply chain to this account and he has also accompanied several sales representatives in the field and obtained valuable information concerning the end uses, storage and potential delivery access problems experienced by customers. This has enabled him to relate sympathetically with customers' queries and offer timely and accurate advice.

Health and Safety and Personnel Manager at Rock Oil, Colin McDonogh comments, "David has made a great start to his career at Rock and we are delighted that his hard work and attention to detail has been recognised by the industry.

Given the remarkable progress for a 20 year-old from amateur rugby player to a position in sales handling accounts worth in excess of £0.5 million in less than 18 months leads me to believe that David has an extremely bright future within the Fuels and Lubricants industry, and this award has a tremendous boost to David but I also believe it also gives encouragement to others of his generation and background.

Paul Martin of Reynolds commented, "One way of judging the health of the fuel distribution industry is by the quality of the young people attracted to the industry.  There is no doubt that we have some fantastic prospects because the three finalists faced stiff competition from other entries."

David was awarded with the Young Employee of the Year Trophy at the glittering FPS 2010 Awards Dinner and he was joined at the celebrations by runners up Kara McIntosh from Gleaner Oils and Gas and Shelley Carey from Callow Oils, both of whom received an award.
