Environment Agency Needs Your Help

6th July 2010

The Environment Agency is appealing for information to help trace the source of a pollution in North Lincolnshire.

A member of the public alerted officers to the presence of a thick, oily substance in a drainage culvert between the villages of South Killingholme and Ulceby Skitter on 9 June. Investigations are continuing in a bid to trace its source.

Samples have been taken from the drain, which is located between the railway line and a private track - West Middle Mere Road - near to a gas substation. Now, officers are looking for further information that may identify where the substance has come from.

The team investigating the pollution incident are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may know who owns a disused airfield located nearby or has any historical drainage maps of the area.

Anyone with any information should contact the Environment Agency on 0800 807060. All details will be treated in confidence and callers do not have to give their name.
