Oil Over for Trianco?
21st July 2010
Sheffield based Trianco Heating Products Limited - one of the UK's best known manufacturers of solid fuel and oil fired boilers has ceased trading today, following the appointment of administrators to the business.
After speaking to someone familiar with the situation earlier today, OilFiredUp.com understands there is little prospect of the business being sold as a going concern and the company's 40 strong workforce has been made redundant. However, according to a report in The Star Newspaper, administrators are in discussions with several intertested parties to acquire the assets of the failed business.
Trianco can trace its history back to the middle of the 19th. Century, when Newton Chambers made its first made coal fire ranges at Thorncliffe in Sheffield. Fireplaces, back boilers and free standing heating stoves followed. In 1873, the company was awarded the royal warrant to Queen Victoria. Under this name, the 1940s and 50s saw the company pioneer domestic oil fired boilers and it was probably the first UK manufacturer to offer an oil fired combi model. In the early 1970s Newton Chambers acquired Trianco Stewart, a small oil boiler manufacturer, and the Trianco brand was born.
A management buy out followed in 1983 and then, in 1995, the company became part of the Bullough Group and was subsequently acquired by Union Investment Bank, a London based merchant bank.
In the 21st. Century, the company kicked off the new millennium with a multimillion pound investment in new plant and equipment, including two high tech robot-welding machines complete with manipulators, box forming machines and an automatic paint-spraying machine for high quality finishing. A move to new premises followed in September 2004, incorporating a new production area, training school and offices.
In 2006, the company was bought by its management, led by Managing Director Peter Ferguson and trading as Trianco Heating Products Limited as one of the last British owned manufacturers of domestic oil fired boilers. In recent years, the company's range of oil fired and solid fuel boilers were significantly upgraded and augmented by a range of electric and renewable boilers.
Trianco offered warranties of up to 5 years on its products. Concerned customers, installers and technicians should in the first instance refer any queries to the person(s) who installed or supplied their Trianco product. Trade customers are advised to make contact with Deloitte's Leeds office who are responsible for the administration of the company.
Trianco's former Redfyre subsidiary is not affected by the company's entry into administration. Redfyre demerged from Trianco in 2003 and since then has operated separately from its former sister company and is today part of the successful Exeter based, Gazco / Stovax group of businesses.
