OFTEC Launches Full Scope Part P Scheme
25th May 2012
OFTEC has launched a full scope Part P scheme to enable existing registrants to self certify fixed, low voltage or extra-low voltage electrical installations. The new OFT 103 scheme replaces OFTEC's defined scope scheme and is competitively priced at £199+VAT for annual registration.
One of the first OFTEC registered technicians to sign up to the OFT 103 scheme is Colin Beckett who is based in Lincolnshire. He said, "I added full scope Part P to my OFTEC registration purely because of the electrical work that needs doing as part of a boiler installation. Often I'll need to put in fused spurs, thermostats and other wiring, so being able to do all that work myself made sense."
Under Part P of the building regulations in England and Wales, electrical work should comply with British Standard BS7671, and certain specified electrical works are notifiable to the local authority. OFTEC can now offer existing registrants an extension to scope to include Part P, which involves an annual on-site visit by an appointed technical expert to assess competence. Registrants on the OFT 103 scheme will also have access to a free technical helpline.
Registrants can notify their jobs quickly and easily using the OFTEC works notification system. Using a low cost online system, technicians can make sure the local authority is notified and that the householder will receive a certificate of compliance.
