It’s a little over a year since Oilfiredup.com first appeared online… and in that time the site has grown to become the leading web resource for the UK’s oil heating industry.
From a standing start in December 2003 with a handful of new stories, a few links and a small number of visitors, Oilfiredup.com has grown beyond all recognition. Today, Oilfiredup.com features over 200 news items and contains over 300 links to oil heating equipment suppliers, fuel distributors, trade associations, statutory authorities and much, much more.
During the past 12 months alone, Oilfiredup.com has served over 12,000 links and received hundreds of thousands of hits, from thousands of oil heating professionals from across the UK and around the world. But we’re not finished growing just yet. Rest assured, there’s still plenty more to come.
Indeed, over the next few weeks, regular visitors will notice a few changes to Oilfiredup.com.
Firstly, website accessibility and online inclusion for all is something that we take very seriously. So you’ll probably see a few nips here and a few tucks there to the existing website, to ensure full compliance with the requirements of the recently enacted, Disability Discrimination Act. We’re pretty sure we’ll be the first oil heating site on the web to have achieved that – though of course, if you know different, please let us know.
For our North American friends, we’ll be striving to ensure simultaneous compliance with The Federal Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board’s Section 508 Guidelines. Again, we’ll be one of a very small number of oil heating websites to have achieved that standard.
Secondly, whilst Oilfiredup.com was the first website of its kind in the United Kingdom… we’ll very shortly be unveiling a world first, in the form of Oilfiredup.com/Search. In short, we’ve built our very own search engine, dedicated to the oil heating industry.
Constructed using the powerful Fluid Dynamics Search Engine Platform and developed in partnership with leading UK e-business provider, Vision Business Solutions, you’ll be able to search the web quickly and efficiently for oil heating information, confident that all results have some relevancy to your search.
So never again will you have to trawl through scores of irrelevant results to find what you require. With Oilfiredup.com/Search, we aim to take you directly to the information you require. To make things even simpler, there’ll also be the option of limiting your search to Oilfiredup.com.
We’ll also be shortly launching a paid on-site advertising service.
As Oilfiredup.com has grown, it has become obvious that simply to cover the operating costs of the site and to ensure that the site remains free to use and free to access, we had to create an additional revenue stream. At the same time, we’ve also received an increasing number of enquiries from oil equipment suppliers asking about advertising opportunities on the site.
We knew that if we could devise a ‘win, win’ situation for Oilfiredup.com, our visitors, and our potential advertisers, we would do so. So, we’ve been trialling on-site advertising software. Trialling it because, we wanted to make sure that incorporating advertising on to the site did not detract from the overall visitor experience, nor unnecessarily impact either upon the performance of the site, or upon Oilfiredup.com’s perceived impartiality.
And after six months, we’re confident that it doesn’t. We also wanted to make sure that we could offer a range of advertising that was not only affordable, but also effective. So advertising on Oilfiredup.com will start from as little as £15 per calendar month, rising to a maximum of £350 per calendar month. However, advertising opportunities will be strictly limited, given Oilfiredup.com is first and foremost an oil heating news resource, not an online advertising bill board.
