EA responds to major Lincolnshire pollution incident
19th December 2004
The Environment Agency is responding to an oil pollution incident in South Killingholme Drain, North Lincolnshire.
Officers have been on site since Tuesday morning assisting with the clean-up operation and assessing the impacts. It is not clear when the incident began but it is now under control.
The coastguard reported that oil has been observed locally around Killingholme Haven, and there is a concern that it may impact wildlife habitat, although it is thought that the oil will quickly disperse naturally.
Dominic Freestone, Environment Officer said: “We do not expect any long-term impact on water quality. However, we will continue to monitor the situation. An investigation has been launched into the source and cause of the incident.”
