EST reports Renewable Energy breakthrough
30th December 2004
According to reports from the Energy Savings Trust, scientists in Argentina claim to have made a breakthrough in the quest for clean, green, renewable energy.
A group of scientists at the University of Buenos Aires has created a carbon neutral technique that converts ethyl alcohol into hydrogen. The process is understood to be significantly cheaper than current hydrogen generating techniques. Additionally, it does not involve the direct use of non-renewable carbon fuels.
It is envisaged that initially, the key application for the new technology will be for hydrogen fuelled vehicles, but superficially, the process may have future applications for domestic space and water heating requirements.
