Challenging Year ahead for UK's Oil Heating Industry
31st December 2004
Everyone at Oilfiredup.com would like to wish all our visitors and their families a very happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.
2005 promises to be both challenging and exciting in equal measure for the oil heating industry throughout the British Isles.
April will see the move toward condensing boilers at oil installations begin in earnest. From 1 April 2005, it will only be permissible to install condensing boilers at new build installations with only a very few exceptions. The 2 year countdown will commence to condensing type boilers being installed at existing and replacement heating installations.
The countdown has also begun toward the introduction of revisions to Part L of the Building Regulations, set to take effect in January 2006.
These changes will require all new build heating installations to adhere to strict carbon emission requirements. OFTEC has already flagged its concerns that these requirements will prove unnecessarily onerous at rural installations and is currently in discussions with HM Government in this regard. We of course wish them well in their endeavours, which will prove central to the continued growth and success of the oil heating industry throughout the United Kingdom.
September sees The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 finally coming into full effect. Applicable to all above ground commercial, industrial, institutional (with an installed capacity of over 200 litres) and larger domestic installations with an installed capacity of over 3500 litres, they have been devised with the singular aim of reducing the impact of oil upon the environment.
Together with many environmentally responsible oil heating installers, Oilfiredup.com hopes that it will not to be too long until smaller domestic installations are afforded similar levels of protection and security and we trust that it is only a matter of time until similar requirements are introduced throughout the UK.
In the interim, we are fully supportive of industry moves to establish Bunded Tanks as the default choice at all domestic installations and trust that the various environmental protection agencies throughout the UK, together with their Building Control colleagues, will enforce both new and existing regulations.
Aside from the introduction of new and revised regulations, 2005 will also more OFTEC Roadshows throughout across the British Isles. These have proven especially popular over recent years and are a unique opportunity for installers to catch up with the latest developments within the oil heating industry… as well as being able to get "up close and personal" with OFTEC"s acknowledged industry experts.
April sees FPS2005, unquestionably the biggest and best oil heating exhibition in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. Telford in Shropshire is the venue this year and Oilfiredup.com will of course be in attendance to bring you the very latest news from the event. Attendance at the event is free and if you haven’t yet registered, be sure and click the link below.
So until 2005, take excellent care, enjoy the festivities, have a great New Year and we look forward to catching up with online and offline very soon!
