Titan helps complete eco-friendly dream home
21st February 2005
An eco-friendly building project, which will be open to local schools and charity groups, has been given a boost by oil storage tank manufacturer Kingspan Environmental Container’s Titan Environmental subsidiary, which is supplying a bunded oil storage tank for this prestigious project.
The EcoSafe tank, which exceeds the latest oil storage regulations, is fitted with the Watchman Plus fuel monitoring system, which keeps a safety check on the integral bund. The Watchman also accurately measures the level of fuel in the tank.
Owing to the environmental sensitivity of the site on the Isle of Wight, it is essential that the oil storage tank for the newly built Haddon Lake House is the very best.
The house in St Lawrence is the brainchild of Isle of Wight landscape designer Phillippa Lambert and has been built from scratch on the site of a once derelict Victorian walled garden, which has been restored to its former glory.
Designed to create minimal environmental impact and maximum energy conservation, the house overlooks a lake and uses spring water from a restored Victorian catchment tank. Mike Rainey of Rainey, Petrie, Johns Ltd produced the original concept drawings of the house and eco-architect Simon Clark used them as the basis for his design work. The property was built using natural and mostly organic products.
The oil tank is due to be installed in the next few weeks and the house and garden are expected to open midsummer. Schools and other community groups will be able to visit free of charge and learn more about the project.
Philip Browne, Commercial Manager for Titan Environmental, said: “We are delighted to help Phillippa with this project, which will showcase environmental excellence in design, construction and the use of related products.
“Our EcoSafe bunded tank complements this project perfectly, since it exceeds the latest oil storage safety regulations and provides additional protection against damage or spillages.”
Phillippa said: “I sold my own house to help fund this project, but even that could not have covered the huge cost involved in building this incredible house and restoring the garden to its former glory.
“I have been touched by the generosity of companies such as Titan Environmental, which have helped to make this dream come true. I am sure their efforts will be appreciated by the many people who will come to visit us.”
