City of Baltimore begins Renewable Heating Oil Trial
9th May 2009
In a groundbreaking announcement, the US City of Baltimore is set to evaluate Renewable Heating Oil for boiler applications in municipal buildings, right in the heart of the USA's twentieth largest city - following an agreement with Nasdaq (NGBF) listed New Generation Biofuel Holdings, Inc.
In this program, New Generation Biofuels will sell the City biofuel for evaluation in the City's municipal buildings. The outcome of the evaluation is expected to further validate New Generation Biofuels' product as a renewable biofuel which uniquely offers Nitrous Oxide (NOx) and Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) reductions as compared to traditional distillate fuels. Currently, Baltimore consumes over 10 million US Gallons of fuel oil each and every year. The agreement with New Generation Biofuel Holdings is the first time the City has used a renewable fuel in its boilers.
"We are enthusiastic to be working with the City of Baltimore on this evaluation program," says New Generation Biofuels' Chief Executive Officer, Cary Claiborne. "The City of Baltimore understands the importance of a sustainable biofuel to reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions and the importance of using a clean, efficient fuel."
Mr. Claiborne continues, "In addition, our biofuel can be used as a 100 percent fuel switch with minimal modification required to a customer's equipment."
Baltimore's Department of Public Works Energy Advisor Ted Atwood says, "The Energy Office is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to reduce and save on energy costs in sustainable ways that will benefit our City now and into the future. To that end, I am eager to start the evaluation phase."
