Oil Change for Scottish Fuel Storage Regulations!

17th February 2010

From 1 April 2010 the storage of fuel oil in quantities above 200 litres in Scotland at agricultural, commercial, industrial and institutional premises will change forever, with The Water Environment (Oil Storage) (Scotland) Regulations 2006 coming into full effect.

The new Regulations establish minimum standards for oil storage installations at affected premises, and cover new, existing and replacement storage tanks. Representing the biggest change in Scottish fuel storage regulations for a generation, the legislation establishes a requirement for mandatory bunding at all above ground installations.

Based in Aberdeen, Balmoral Tanks Limited is Scotland's only manufacturer of rotationally moulded fuel and oil storage tanks and has played its part in pioneering the introduction of environmentally preferred, bunded tanks. Today's Balmoral range consists of a wide range of fuel storage solutions for Diesel, Fuel Oil, Home Heating Oil, Lubricants and Waste Oil. The company offers a wide choice of capacities from 1,135 litres to 10,000 litres.

Speaking ahead of the change in the Regulations, Balmoral Tanks' Managing Director Allan Joyce says, "As an independent and client-focused company, we continue to invest in our range of products ensuring that every requirement is met. Having pioneered the industry with bunded tanks and customised dispensing stations, we believe we are uniquely placed in the United Kingdom sector.

"We understand market demands and make it as easy as possible for clients to order precisely what they need and have it delivered when and where they want it. This is no small consideration when you think about the size of some of our larger tanks.

"So, whether you require a 500 litre Waste Oil Tank or a 10,000 litre fully equipped Superfill Diesel Storage Tank we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your specific requirements."

Offering a distinctive service to the industry, Balmoral Tanks has developed a number of web-based training modules - one of which focuses on fuel oil storage. These modules can be viewed online by clicking here.

The fuel oil storage training module covers essential information and is split into three easy to understand sections: product, process and market; product selection and accessories; installation, maintenance and legislation.

"We are optimistic that customers will see the value of this online information", said Allan. "Clients and users can develop their knowledge at a time that suits them and perhaps more importantly suits their business needs. The Balmoral team is only a phone call away. Feel free to call us on 01224 859 250 for a full update on the new Regulations. We will be delighted to share our industry knowledge and experience with you."
