100 Fermanagh Homes to benefit from Oil Heating
5th March 2010
Almost 100 homeowners and householders in Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland are having new oil heating systems installed in their homes. The two contracts valued at over £695,000 are being carried out by Belfast based contractor, HEAT Limited on behalf of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. The homes will benefit from new, high efficiency oil fired central heating systems installed over a 10 week period.
Housing Executive District Manager Michael Callaghan described the schemes as a major boost for Fermanagh residents and a step towards the Housing Executive's goal to improve energy efficiency in homes across Northern Ireland. Mr. Callaghan commented, "We are delighted these schemes have been given the go-ahead as part of the extra funding for social housing announced by the Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie MLA.
"As the Home Energy Conservation Authority for Northern Ireland, the Housing Executive is committed to improving energy efficiency in both social and private sector housing and is working with partner organisations in a wide range of projects. Over recent years we have been replacing solid fuel room heaters and Economy 7. I am delighted that our tenants will benefit from an efficient, cleaner heating system.
"This investment also demonstrates the organisations commitment to rural communities. The Housing Executive's Rural Homes and People Strategy has made a significant contribution to rural development and sustainability, and with the help of local communities and others we will continue to tackle the housing needs of rural areas.
"We have been working closely with our heating contractor HEAT to ensure that our tenants involved in these schemes were fully consulted. I am confident the work will be carried out to a very high standard with as little disruption as possible for our tenants. This significant investment will add to the quality of accommodation we can provide in Enniskillen."
Jack McKinney, Chairperson of the Fermanagh Housing Community Network (HCN) has welcomed the start of the schemes and said, "The HCN welcomes this investment by the Housing Executive in Fermanagh. It is great news that almost 100 tenants will have new energy efficient heating systems installed in their homes. We will continue to work with the local office and the contractor to ensure the work is completed satisfactorily and that any issues which arise are resolved."
